Instructions for Use

This calculator is intended to estimate the probability that a patient undergoing inpatient or emergency ophthalmology evaluation has papilledema. It is based on a multivariable logistic regression model derived from a multicenter retrospective study of hospital-based papilledema consultations.

The result should be interpreted in the full clinical context and does not replace ophthalmic examination, neuroimaging review, or specialist judgment. Risk estimates reflect probabilities observed in similar patients in the study population and are best used as decision-support rather than as a stand-alone diagnostic rule. This calculator was developed from a multicenter retrospective study of inpatient and emergency room papilledema screening consultations. Model performance was moderate, so predictions should be used cautiously and alongside clinical evaluation.
